The problem would be that America is wealthier, more populated and has a superior infrastructure to Canada so that one wouldn't work.

As an entire country, America is certainly wealthier. But Canada has the richest middle class in the world.

America's superior infrastructure is crumbling.
The American Society of Civil Engineers as given it an overall grade of D+.
Everything from dams to schools vary between C and D, with only one B-, and that's for solid waste.
2013 Report Card for America's Infrastructure

Besides, nothing would change. It would just be named Canada.

My comment was tongue in cheek anyway. I prefer being neighbours and allies. We work well together.
So calm down.

Don't whether to laugh or cry. This statement shows a lack of understanding of the history of why we are two countries.
The differences on the surface may seem trivial, but I can assure you they are not. We have two separate histories that have made our institutions, our laws, our outlook and our liberalness, some of the defining factors.

Narva, Estonia is mostly Russian. If East Ukraine succeeds in independence from Ukraine, then Narva is next I bet.
Ifcourse, East Ukraine and Crimea is mostly Russian speaking. But, even in West Ukraine, and other Soviet Republics Russian is spoken as it's the only way people could communicate with each other.

There are parts of Ukraine which have heavy Polish, Romanian, Hungarian areas.
Yes, Kaliningrad was Prussia, but the Prussians moved out into Germany.
In the U.S. in Maine Acadia there are 200,000 people whose native language is French, as in Quebec, they refused to speak English until some 50 years ago; in Louisiana about same speak French at home.

Basically, most of the world is a mish-mosh of peoples, languages, religions, races, etc. to divide and sub-divide nations into all groups would be madness.
