Yes I was pointing out the fact that England actually only covers about half the area of the UK, and British identity isn't just English.

The Aland Islands are linguistically Swedish so it's surprising that it's part of Finland.

Another example is Singapore, which was thrown out of Malaysia in the 1960's, and become an independent city-state against its own wishes.

I know a lot about the World and I have a lot of wisdom and clarity for that.

However, I had no idea Singapore was part of Malaysia for such a long time and only separated in the 1960s. Singapore became so different from Malaysia with a separate character and national identity.

It shows that smaller countries don’t have to belong more to larger neighboring countries.

Some countries have a more unknown/obscure/enigmatic history compared to other countries. Malaysia appears to be in the top 15 for countries with most obscure and mysterious history to most people.

History can have an important role for how separate countries form and how countries influence each other.

Singapore culturally has a lot in common with the Straits settlements of Penang and Melaka. The strong British history, comparative tolerance.etc compared to the rest of West Malaysia, sets it apart. There's also a strong Chinese flavour (of course influenced a lot by other cultures, noticeably Peranakan culture). Singapore was the main city in the colony of Malaya, the most important port in the British Far East along with Hong Kong and Bombay.

The Malayo-Polynesian people seem pretty unstudied by Western historians in general.

Don't forget Belarus. Most it was created by the USSR as it was cut off of Eastern Poland. Stalin re-arranged Poland to its own satisfaction by also adding parts of Germany to its Eastern/Northern borders and then placed its puppet gov't in it.

What makes Poland different is that it was cut up before the fall of Germany.

They only thing they've taken during war, and its original country wants it given back, is the Golan Heights. Gaza and the West Bank were taken from their Arab residents by Egypt and Jordan (all the Jews were evicted) in 1949. And in 1967 Israel took it from them (no Arabs were evicted). In 1979 treaties were signed with Egypt and Jordan and neither country wanted these two sections back.

So before you go off on your rant about stolen land, blame Egypt & Jordan as they are the ones who stole the land after the partition. They could have let the partition finish and instead they annexed the land. Israel has tried for 45 years to create a Palestinian state and theirs leaders, each and every time, within moments of cutting a deal through a wrench into the works. They already have Gaza so close the door into Israel and all the connections and declare independence. Once Israel finishes its border fence with the West Bank, then they can do the same thing. But if you think its something as easy as land, then you've got a lot to learn about the last 64 years.
