I'm talking reality here. In spite of its problems, the U.S. is still the major economic engine, innovator and driving force in the world today. We know the story right? At different times, the same position was held by Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands, the Islamic world, Rome, Egypt, etc. What comes around goes around.

Personally, if I could then I would prefer to live in places like England, France or Germany to the U.S. because I like the culture in those countries more. But that doesn't change who is top dog in the world right now.

You make a mistake between a country and what people live in the country

Your country might be top dog, but the ordinary person does not benefit one iota from it so it is a false pride being displayed here. It is like the British empire, most Brits lived in extreme poverty when the UK was the richest country on the planet by a mile. Don't be proud of being top dog when the average American is still being reamed by the government on education, medical care and social security. All I can say is that I wouldn't swap your passport for mine.

As a "buy american", union member, real(?) american type individual, I hate what we've become for probably the same reasons people in other countries have issues with us. That 'real' America died in the late 60's, early 70's.
Things are cyclical, though . . . Im hoping we reject the apathy, skewn priorities and selfish consumerist lifestyle that is plaguing us currently and eventually get back to some form of sanity.
In the meantime, no biggie, we can just bomb anyone who disagrees with us *w00t*

Because we are a superpower?
Is it because of the "American ignorance"?

Please feel free to answer my question
I grew up on in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) in a neighborhood full of first generation Americans or people newly immigrated. I always find that people have this image of America from television that feels their ideology of what it could be compared to what it is. Not to mention they hold true and tight to their culture (and that is not a bad thing) but so much so that it causes conflict with the so called Americanized ways of their own people or culture in general.

What I find so ironic about people who bad mouth this country is that they continue to come here, make a life, and if you were to take it from them or tell them to go back to where they come from, then you would be wrong. I have encountered this attitude a lot, and at times, find myself questioning why my country/government goes overseas to do so much and help others compared to what they don't do for their fellow American

The biggest issue is that people feel because you are American born and raised you don't know anything outside of this country, can't comprehend other cultures, and are, in some ways, beneath them

Sad but true

I have a feeling that neither of you have any clue what that graph actually means. That's a 100-year graph of the Wealth/Income ratio in 3 countries. It says nothing about wealth, and nothing about income.

I am sure that people who go through the effort to live in the states don't 'bad mouth' your country. No-one is bad mouthing your country on here by the way.

One thing I sense about Americans is that they are very sensitive to criticism, they want to be the baddest but most loved dog in the yard, you can't be both. Just ask the British. Though British foreign policy in those days wasn't about being loved, being feared was enough.

And who do you help worldwide? The US government doesn't even help the people in its own country!
