This is a joke, right? Who in the US glorifies Custer????? Quite the opposite--he's taught as sort of the poster boy for stupid decisions.
That comment he made tells you way more about Canadians and their attitude towards the USA than anything about Americans history. No one glorifies Custer and the last stand. This is what irritates me so much about Canadians. They never miss a beat to make snide comments about the US.
I don't understand why Europeans are always singled out as being particularly anti-American. I don't think these sentiments are any more prevalent here than in other parts of the world.
Oh, so I suppose it is fine as long as the whole world is anti-American. Why are you even on this US based forum?
I have met some annoying Canadians who turn into a jealous child when you start talking about the USA but a lot of them also like us and our country.
When I lived in Seattle, I was dating a Canadian girl who lived in Victoria. I'd take the ferry over to see her on my days off... between visiting her in Victoria, hitting numerous bars and restaurants there, driving up island, going to Vancouver and Calgary, etc., I never encountered any negativity from anyone that I can recall. A bit of snootiness in Vancouver but nothing exceptional considering.

Tom, if there's one thing I learned about reading this topic, is that Europeans are no better than Americans, and the vast majority of Europeans represented on here are definitely not much smarter than Americans and make a lot of parochial comments about the US and Americans based on a few rowdy tourists they came across and the TV. The worst offenders seem to be, now this is very shocking (!), certain British/Commonwealth posters! Along with a few Americans that shalol not be made obvious that seem to suffer from Stockholm Syndrome
I checked past threads to see if this has been done before, which I don't think it has. Anyway, the title explains it all.
Is it because of American tv (which portrays us in the worst light possible, and most of it is not real anyway)?
Because we are a superpower?
Is it because of the "American ignorance"?
Please feel free to answer my question
Because most of the world looks at America through the lense of years and years of their own socialist or dictatorial worlds.
They simply cannot understand liberty (what little we have left).

A lot of western Europeans, mostly the ones you have on the internet and not in real life, suffer from what I call faux sophistication. Many are pretend champagne socialists that think they know everything because they watch the BBC or read The Guardian. You know this when they revert, when bakced to a corner, the same tired mêmes of US has no healthcare, foreign policy, blah blah blah (does it ever seem strangely coincidental to you that these are the only retorts foreigners have of the US?)
I don't think people hate USA but its what people see at first glance.
