Certainly worth considering.

Global Financial Centers Index (22nd Edition) is out for September 2017.

This ranking may not be as reputable as the Big Four studies, but it shows some interesting trends.

All of the top 20 centers (save Frankfurt) lost points, with US centers (New York, Boston and San Francisco) losing the most. London now holds a statistically significant lead. I'm not exactly clear what is going on with New York.

Another global connectivity map, in a different style to the Knight Frank version posted in another thread.

London is the financial capital of the world and NYC the financial capital of America. The financial capital of America far surpasses the world financial capital in GDP and the money generated from its financial transactions.

This is basically the case: London is the financial capital of the world in large part because of the overflows of the New York market and those of almost every other country's financial capital. And the main markets are insurance, bonds and other loans, and the currency transactions that they generate. Stock market would be among the lesser factors.

It will be interesting to see which city out of the two will do more pioneering work in blockchain. My guess is New York, which I think has more dynamic and interesting human capital than London right now (despite what the Z/Yen report says). But we'll see.
