Personally i say in order my top ones are
1. Adolph Hitler- led a country back from depression and disaster made them into a world power.
2. Jefferson Davis- tried to lead his country to freedom from the oppressive yankee government.
3. Robert E. Lee- best general ever! led the confederate army to almost victory and freedom was a great man of principle.
4. George lincoln Rockwell- fought against biased media and ran for president and governor of virginia before being assasinated in 1967
5. General Franco- led spain to victory over the communist
6.Corneliu Codreanu- anti communist resistance fighter in romania.
no matter who anyone picks lets not turn this into a pissing match these are my personal picks and i dont care if you like them or not...im sure i wont like alot of who everyone else picks either but i wont say a word about there picks as long as mine are respected.

1. Booker T Washington for outsmarting even the NAACP with the statement something to the effect: "confrontation would lead to disaster for the outnumbered blacks, and that cooperation with supportive whites was the only way to overcome pervasive racism in the long run"
2. Ulysses S. Grant: for being on the winning team.
3. Jack Roosevelt Robinson: Courage.
4. Martin Luther King Jr.: Charisma
5. Oprah: a black woman who is where she is! That's like asking Frederick Paul Fromm to say a few nice words for # 4.
6. Bill Cosby: for helping America break a stereotype.
7. Victor Frankl, author of Man's Search for Meaning: Well he was a doctor, but I'll consider him a leader. He showed that the WILL can surpass ANYTHING, even remaining emotionless after a German NAZI sending your wife to the right to be cremated, then asked to give up your wedding ring for it's petty value, so that you can live one more dreadful and drury evil day! What this guy had to endure was about as close as it gets to HELL, folks. Don't believe in HELL, read this book!
8. Chef on South Park: More Courage!

While I strongly disagree with almost everyone on Southerntraveler14's list, I have to say that I do consider Robert E Lee to be the greatest military commander this country has ever produced. In addition, he was indeed a man of morals - who agonized about the decision to fight for the Confederacy. As Lincoln's personal choice to command the entire army of the North (and actually sympathizing mostly with the Union) he reluctantly agreed to a Confederate command for the simple reason that he could not bare to fight against the state (Virginia) that was his home.
He was the rarest of military leaders - a man who was truly respected (not just for his military skills, but for his humanity as well) by BOTH sides. He was not just a great military leader, he was a decent human being as well - and BOTH sides knew it.
Truly and officer AND a gentleman.

So would you agree that he was a man of principle for allowing his loyalty to his home to supercede his true feelings for the war? It doesn't matter that he agonized about it. I think fighting for what you believe in to be a lot more moralistic than fighting for a side simply because you were born on the other side of a line.

He believed in his state AND the Union. Though unhappy that Virginia chose to leave the Union, in the final analysis his state held his loyality more than the Union did - so yes he was a man of principle. You need to keep in mind that prior to the Civil War MOST Americans associated themselves with their home state more than the Federal government. To paraphrase a line from Ken Burn's Civil War "Before the Civil War America was referred to as 'THESE United States' but after the Civil War the term became 'THE United States'". In a very real sense the Civil War was what MADE the United States into the single unified country it is today. Prior to that for most Americans the individual states were their primary concern, with the government in Washington coming in second.

PS - Remember too that the war (at least at the beginning) was NOT about slavery, but rather about States rights versus the rights of the Federal government. Freedom for the slaves came later in the war.

Dude.. what the hell? Adolf Hitler and Robert E. Lee? Can I welcome you to the 21st century. You think a leader who killed 11 million Jews is a great leader?! And you think someone who tried to fight to keep slavery is a great general?
