Valentine’s Day in America and other countries around the world is a special day. It is an important day in the U.S., but we wanted to know how it is celebrated in other countries.
Would you like to share the traditions in your country?
Well, in Canada we celebrate it the same way, but I know that in Japan it's a day when women present chocolate to the men in their lives. One month later, on March 14th, there is "White Day" when the men return the favour by presenting white chocolates to the women who favoured them on Valentine's day.
Australia treats it the same as the USA, the commercial businesses makes the money, buy a card, chocolates, roses, dinner, gift, etc.
Is it not more important to show that you love someone on any of the 365 days of the year instead of the pressure of "Valentines Day"? And before you say it, yes, I am single this year but still don't think Valentines Day is special and even when I was not single still did not celebrate this particular date on the calendar.
Since different countries may have different customs, I was interested in the country customs not so much what some people would do or not do that day.
BIMBAM wrote an excellent example how VD is celebrated in Japan. I think the same goes for South Korea and in Taiwan it's reversed.
I hate it. Really awkward. People send rollos in school. Its embaressing. My mum always gets me and my sister a card lol. I think its the same here as america.
Thought it fun when I was young... not that I got manybut I dont think my partner has ever sent me one... what he does though is go to a job every day he hates to keep our mortgage paid.. does all the odd jobs around the house without a moan, suffers me moaning when Im ill... which is quite often.. so Im happy without his card that means nothing... To me cards are like saying I love you to someone every minute of the day.. means nothing after a while....and doesnt prove love.. but hope you all have a nice Valentines Day anyway.
I did leave a card and some chocolates next to my 'sleeping' girlfried when I left the house this morning, thinking about it though I now wish I had bought her flowers instead - she's probably going to complain about the chocolates because she is on a diet!
