When I think of Korea, Teokbokki comes up first in my mind.
Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism held a survey about the '2nd Korean wave and image of Korea' in October and November for 3600 people in 9 countries (China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, US, Brazil, France, UK, and Russia). The first thing that comes up in the mind of foreigners is Korean cuisine. The second is Korean dramas, third is K-pop and electronics.
Of course, there are differences between regions. In Asia, Drama and K-pop was popular. In the Americas, Korean cuisine and electronic products was well-known. In Europe, the Korean War and electronic products was what foreigners thought of. Korean food and cultural assets of Korea will act as the cornerstone for promoting Korea, a small, yet a strong country.

Unfortunately, increasingly cheesy K-pop like Gangnam style.
We had a Korean babysitter - well actually the mother of a kindergarten friend, who used to look after us. I just remember her making sushi, which Koreans also eat.
I didn't think of Korea a whole lot until recently. I thought much more of Japan as I was learning Japanese in school. Always been fascinated by Japan.
As for Korea, I knew it was a nation near China, in NE Asia, I knew about Taekwondo, Korean electronics products like Samsung and LG, car brands like Daewoo and Hyundai, and I remember going to have Korean BBQ as a kid a few times. I do enjoy Korean food, as well as Korean snacks.
I think of Korea as a hi-tech, fashion and tech-conscious country, with growing influence. I wonder if it will start becoming a bigger tourist destination as a result of this?
Gangnam style, Kimchi, Hyundai Auto, cell and smart phones or advance electronics, Korean War and DMZ zone. Of course, if you would also include the North...the world's favorite nut(s) - Kim Jong Un and Kim Jong IL .
I think of my adopted brother and grandson (both Korean and both adopted via Holt Adoption Agency in Seoul), and my son's fiancee (getting married in a few months!) also from Seoul, and kimchi, and fabulous sushi and unique spices. Great cuisine that differs quite a bit from other Asian cuisines.
Korea is a fascinating country.
