I agree the US and especially black Americans have done some amazing things for popular music but that really doesn't take away anything from traditional music of other countries and points in history. It's all connected at some type of level.

Anyway, I'm not always a fan of the banjo but do love this traditional Irish song. I love the Irish bodhran drums.

Another one of my favorites but there are literally thousands of Irish tunes.

Intrestic topic, traditional music...But what is traditional music, after all?
Todays music is in some cases traditional music of future and on some cases music is same( lets say 100 years ago) but only the way of performace is changing.
First clip is very traditional finnish music, I think that this record is from 1950 or so but orginally the age of song is 100-120 years, I think.
Second clip is from same song, but age of performace is 5 years....So,new music can be in fact old traditional music.

Juomaripoika Ja Kimpale Kultaa - YouTube

When thinking exsample rock-music, first it was just rock music, now after around 50 years, we have traditional rock music....In future "Rock" will be dropped away and then its called only "traditional music".

Traditional means, to my mind, uninfluenced by the Global Musical/Industrial Complex. And that includes "World Beat", that horrible mind-numbing drum beat that hypnotically underlies everything mixed by the Sony/BMG monopoly in global music distribution. Go to a site like Pandora and click on World Beat. The constancy of the beat never lets up, it's the same thump thump you hear coming out of the subwoofers in gangbangers cars, just with words in a non-English language and/or an exotic instrument in the mix.

There are some very popular artists in ex-Yugoslavia who still perform the traditional music of that regilon:

Oh and guess what........... the thread was created by you! Well you have your answer.

Ignorant, some of the best music currently and in history comes from the UK.
Most of that UK music originates from the US

Wrong Scottish folk music has been in existence before the US was probably even a country.

I think what he is saying that those legendary bands/singers people may mention will know for singing a certain type of music that originated from the US. Im not saying that Scottish folk music isn't any good but outside of the country side of Scotland (And im being generous with that ideal) do you really think anyone would be able to name a single folk music artist. I doubt it.
