Not folk, but definitely distinctive is the music of Brazil. Really like Os Mutantes, Tom Ze, Caetano Veloso, and all the other Tropicalia folks as well as stalwarts like Elis Regina and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Listening to this stuff makes a person really appreciate what the US has done for music.

I find both Turkish and Indian music mystical and intriguing. Also attracted to France with it's accordian music. Japanese music, especially Okinawan folk songs, are surprisingly melodic and also very evocative, while I enjoy the richly vibrant African chants and the tribes of the hill-tribes in South-East Asia. Balinese orchestras are also very nice, I like the metallic sound. I suppose Western classical music deserves a place.
None. I only listen to english and so do the vast majority of anglophones id say.

Not sure on how to really say it but some of it (to be generous) didn't really sound all that...Inspirational.

And listening to you makes me understand why this thread was created!

Why is it cool to bash Americans ?

Oh and guess what........... the thread was created by you! Well you have your answer.

Ignorant, some of the best music currently and in history comes from the UK.
