*is for cities I've been to. Those I haven't been to are my favourites based on perceptions, what I've heard/know about them. These are not in order.
Also give a brief explanation (1-2 sentences or a few words) of why you included it in your list.
Mega-cities (metro of 10 million+):
New York - Sheer urbanity, famousness, architecture, diversity.
London - Cultural centre of the world - museums, galleries.etc, history, quaintness.
Paris - Beauty, culture, architecture, history, joi'de'verve.
Tokyo - Hi-tech neon lights, quirkiness and novelty, futuristic but also traditional, shopping and food
Beijing - Chinese cultural sights, traditional culture with a modern twist
Large cities (metro of 3 to 10 million):
Melbourne - Such a livable city, diverse and multicultural, food, parks, trams
Rome - Ancient Roman history/architecture, Italian culture and food, quaintness
Barcelona - Gaudi, the beaches, the food and markets
Sydney - Glorious skyline/harbour, outdoor lifestyle
Hong Kong - Best skyline in the world, modern architecture, shopping/markets, setting
Medium cities (metro of 1 to 3 million):
Florence - Renaissance culture, Museums, architecture, very old world/preserved
Kyoto - quaint and picturesque, old wooden Japanese villages, geishas, cherry blossoms, old shrines
Copenhagen - fairytalish old houses, home of Hans Christian Anderson, Danish convivality
New Orleans - Jazz/zydeco/dixieland, creole and cajun food, Spanish quarter architecture, uniqueness, party atmosphere, spookiness
Quito - The amazing mountain setting, Spanish colonial buildings, native Ecuadorian culture
Small cities (metro of under 1 million):
Oxford - Picture postcard English setting, grand old centre of academia
Arles - Roman ruins, the beauty of Provence, home of Jean Calment lol
Lijiang - quaint Chinese village, spectacular scenery
Brugges - Very beautiful and quaint street-scapes, Belgian sweets
George Town - quaint shophouses, amazing food
Generally, if I spend enough time there to get to know it, I learn to like it.
I usually avoid big cities. These are not so bad:

Yeah if Bangkok cleans up it streets maybe it can replace Rome/Chicago on my list, Pattaya is not my style.
