@daniels1775, what city in Australia are you located? I ask because I just started a thread on 5 cities and perhaps you could offer your advice. Much appreciated ....

By the way, I've lived in Chicago and New York (as an adult), visited Toronto and Montreal. Montreal is hard to beat. It's a major hub, but not massive. The French/English dual threat makes for beautiful people, tasty food, and an all inclusive cultural experience. I would place Melbourne on the level of Chicago and Sydney with SF in terms of culture/experience/food. Wellington in the US would be like Seattle (I want to use Portland but I'm sticking to 'scale' and Auckland like Boston in comparison.

My list of favourite cities:

1. Barcelona

3. San Francisco

5. Vienna

Surprisingly ,I didn't care that much for London and Paris. I think they are overrated.

Ah, I'm gonna look that one up, thanks for the tip . There's also a recent movie called Kinshasa Kids that shows a fascinating picture of the Kinshasa street culture. Very good movie .

And indeed, Belgium, including the media, still has some sort of a special connection with the Congo. Me too, thanks to all the stories we heard about it back in school and thanks to the friends from Congo I made in Brussels, still have a more than usual interest in the country.
