Except that it is very efficient population control. If families will only have one son and refuse to settle for a girl for their one child, that means that there are not mothers being raised up for the next generation of production.
I voted yes, but I also agree with the first option. It is not fair to restrict people from living their life. At the same time, when China gets more packed than it already is, it is NOT going to be a good situation. But what do I know? Guess it's not my place to say, because i'm not in this situation.

it was misguided policy. they failed to take into account that carrying capacity increases with technology, wealth, and infrastructure. famines are for poor undeveloped countries. china would be better off if it had never had the one child policy and the population was greater. doesn't matter in any case, ppl have more than one kid all the time in china. plus just look at the general demographic trends in the region: the lowest fertility rates in the world and the other surrounding countries didn't need govt policy to accomplish that. only economic reality. when kids go from being assets to liabilities, ppl stop having them.

The whole sex imbalance thing was a cultural thing, but the OCP sort of enabled it. I think it was necessary at the time, but as China's standard of living rises I don't think many will want to have many kids anyway. Taiwan, Hong Kong have very low fertility rates.
