Part of the problem is that in India itself being dark skinned is stigmatized and the models and movie stars that are selected are usually naturally light skinned, use skin lightening cream, or are digitally made to look lighter for photography. That aside, in person, I think a dark skinned Indians are just about as hot on average as light skinned Indians.
Here are some Southern Indian models. All hot, but all lighter skinned then average for the area:

As someone mentioned, in India and many countries, dark skin is seen as inferior to light skin so models and actresses tend to be more light skinned. It's a shame because dark-skinned women are just as beautiful. There are many Tamils in my city (Toronto) and many of the women are very attractive.

They are light, and I explained why at the beginning of my post. Still, would they be any less attractive with a deep tan? I don't think so. I also agree that the girl in the last picture is the prettiest, the others are trying to hard, she just has a nice girl next door beauty to her.
Light skinned Indian/Desi girls are uglier because they are neither here nor there... not quite dark and not white. The dark chocolate ones are better looking. Or just choose a white Italian. But not mud looking like those Indian movie stars, they look dirty.

Uh, wow, I agree that dark skinned Indian women aren't appreciated enough, but those were some pretty disrespectful and dehumanizing remarks about light skinned Indian people, really not nice. Reflect back on how what you said might be hurtful to real human beings. "Or just choose a white Italian"? Eeesh, like they're just an inferior product or something.
South Asia then, Indian subcontinent ....... whatever!
