The influx of everyone in South Florida is recent, most non-immigrants are from out of state. In 1950, the population was 5% of what it is now. The hispanics haven't arrived much more recently than the non-hispanics.

I would hate to live in that crammed ****hole, especially if I was retired and wealthy.

A relaxed paradise of nature exists 100 miles north in the Stuart area, without weather compromise. I could be hiking or boating/fishing, while those in Dade County are still sitting idly in a car.

However, among only cities with multi million populations it is probably one of the better options.

You could not pay me enough to live in the Miami area. For years, I had the entire State as my territory and always dreaded going to the East Coast. We settled on the West Coast and love it because it isn't as crowded or fast paced as Miami. It is also like going to a foreign country when you get there.

No thanks.

Eh. The thread is on Miami not Florida as a whole. Miami-Dade County percent and number hispanic:

1970: 299,000 (23.6% of the total population)
1980: 581,000 (35.7%)
1990: 953,000 (49.2%)
2000: 1,292,000 (57.3%)
2010: 1,653,000 (64.7%)

So more steadily increasing rather than any sudden change.

Remember that Florida was traded to Britain in exchanged for Cuba, because British had occupied and taken Cuba from the Spanish, so a deal and exchange agreement was made that gave Britain control over Florida.

Forts and fortifications were improved and strengthened during British rule of Florida (West Florida and East Florida)
