What TV shows are popular in the nation in which you live? I'm asking about shows produced in your nation, not foreign shows dubbed or captioned in your native language!*

English-speaking Canada (basically Canada except for Quebec):

The most popular TV program this spring has been the National Hockey League Stanley Cup playoffs. Four Canadian teams were involved in the first round so ratings were super-high. Three of them were eliminated and the one remaining Canadian team is not from one of the larger cities in the country (Ottawa). So the hockey ratings will likely drop off somewhat now.

Aside from that the most popular shows (excluding news) are:

Survivor
Amazing Race
Big Bang Theory
Castle
The Mentalist
Bones
American Idol
The Voice
The Following
Two and a Half Men

Note that for shows that often have "national" versions in different countries (The Voice, Idol, etc.), in the cases above these are all the U.S. versions.

Quebec (or French-speaking Canada - not exactly the same thing but close enough):

La Voix (Québécois adaptation of The Voice)
Unité 9 (prison drama)
19-2 (police drama)
Yamaska (téléroman - sort of like a soap opera but not shot in a studio - has higher production values)
Toute la vérité (comedy)
O' (téléroman - drama)
Mémoires vives (téléroman - drama)
La poule aux oeufs d'or (game show)
Destinées (téléroman - drama)
Trauma (hospital drama)

Looking at the top 30, 29 of them are made-in-Quebec productions. The only non-Quebec production is at number 17 and surprise-surprise it is not American but British: Downton Abbey.

Dubs of popular American shows and movies do sometimes appear in the top ratings in Quebec during the summer months, after the seasons of many of the Quebec shows has run out.

We don't really have favourite shows. I hate British shows they are so boring except a few.

This year the most watched programme was

Call the midwife with 10.85million viewers.

Most viewed TV programmes in 2012 | Media | guardian.co.uk

But those are one offs it doesn't really tell you anything about the most watched show by year. Probably Eastenders. But I like shows like Vegas, Murdoch Mysteries, Family guy etc.
