Egypt - Syria, which were amalgamated into the United Arab Republic for a few years in the 60s.

Greenland - Canada.

Madagascar - Indonesia. The people of both countries share a common ethnicity.

Netherlands - South Africa, which share both ethnicity and language, and their modern cultures evolved alongside each other.

Surinam - India. Surinam is about 40% of Hindustani ancestry.

Liberia - USA. The ancestors of modern Liberians are freed slaves from the Americas, and still speak English with a black American accent. They use only US dollars, and have never had their own currency.

Dominican Republic - Equatorial Guinea. Both African island cultures with Spanish language and colonial history.

Cuba - Philippines. Both tropical former Spanish colonies taken over and developed by the USA and then by despots.
They do not speak with a Black American accent. I believe only between 5 and 10% of Liberians are actually descendants of freed American slaves.

Mexico - Philippines. The reasons have been discussed at length in other threads.

Canada - Sweden

India - Brazil. Yeah this is a stretch but both are tropical areas with a colonial past with vast stretches of rain-forest and wildlife in abundance. Both have many people who still live at harmony in those jungles.

USA - Russia. Each are dominant in their own spheres of influence.

Argentina - Italy

Haiti - Central African republic. Haiti has African ancestry. Both French speaking and the poorest countries in their regions.

Haha, if we were talking only about countries which seemed the most alike, I think that combination might win. Granted I've not been to either but they seem more alike than many other countries said to be alike.

When I was there, they did. At least, a lot of them did. Maybe things have changed. At least, it had an American ring to it, as opposed to the British-colored English spoken in neighboring Sierra Leone and in Ghana. Liberians pronounced numbers like "fo" and "sebb'm".

I am Black American. have known a few Liberians and had a Liberian teacher. Their accent IS NOT Black American. Not all Black Americans say "fo". Careful with that stereotype, some may bite your head off for that. No Black American I have ever known has said "sebb'm" LOL
