Another Traveler86 quality post. Unfortunately, nobody will approve.
What about the 30% of Germans who are of predominantly Slavic/Polish ancestry then? Not real Germans? For instance, most East German cities and regions have names of Slavic origin and even most people there feel culturally closer to the Polish or Czechs than to the Dutch, Danish or English.
Look at that article (in German) which states that only 6% of German men are of FULL Germanic origin whereas 30% are of clearly Slavic stock. Germany isn't limited to homogenous and sparsely populated areas of Lower Saxony or Schleswig-Holstein which are Germanic "heartland".
So... only few Germans are of true Germanic origin then?
The language and culture is mainly Germanic obviously. In regard to "genetics" it is another pair of shoes, though.
Central Europe was a 'junction' and 'cross road' for Germanic, Celtic, Roman/Mediterranean, Slavic and even "non-European" influences brought by the Jews, Roma's, Huns and Mongols. That is displayed by the population of that areas. Even those mentally-ill Nazi ideologists were aware that Germany as a whole was in fact too "non-Nordic" to fit their agenda. They had wet dreams about the Scandinavian and Baltic states instead.
Better ask our pros Traveler and saxonworld; they can tell you everything about the degree of "Haplogroups" all over Europe.

Germanic is language not race. And the overwhelming majority of germans are descendants of peoples who arrived from central asia later, same as duch and scandianvians, those are the people labeled as germanic/nordic peoples. People with older substrata such as atlantic french, basques and british inhabitated europe long ago those migrations.

Germany is still the more nordic/germanic looking (whether racially or culturally) big european country, by hollywodesque standards out there. Germany is way closer to scandinavia than the UK, france and Let alone spain/italy are.
Britain feels very romanic influenced/old european compared to germany which is more a southern extension of scandinavia and netherlands, culturally wise, and even many racial/phenotypes are similar, just germany being more diverse as a whole than those other little countries with smaller populations.
the I2 isnt an indicator of germanicness because it is a gene spread in nordic/baltic world , which doesnt correlate directly to germanicness, so pointing out I2 distribution in europe would be rather pointless.

I would say largely Finnish, especially in the U.P. of Michigan and some parts of Northeastern Minnesota, leaning more towards Norwegian and Swedish in northwestern Minnesota.
I'm not sure its possible to live in Minnesota and not have at least some connection to German and Scandinavian immigrant culture.
In the rural areas, perhaps not. (I'm talking small towns with 5,000 people). You'll encounter plenty of almost-100% Norwegian or Swedish people there. They might even still know a little bit of Norsk
or Svenska! Keep in mind, though, that the culture they inherited is largely that of rural Sweden or Norway in 1890 or 1900. Many of the people in these small towns - even the younger ones - attend their Lutheran church almost every Sunday.
In the cities - even small cities - there seems to be more influence from the dominant American culture. Also, the German-American identity - which is the leading ancestry in the Midwest - has been severely corroded after two wars against the Germans.

I always thought that Germans ( originally) were a bunch of people from different tribes, loosely affiliated with each other ( I mean their look varies from region to region) and Scandinavian presence among them all was something that was more or less binding them together.
As far as Nazi theories go, from what I've read, they ( being aware of all of the mix,) were trying to increase that presence of Scandinavian blood in Germans as much as possible.

Americans are workaholic, law abiding, respecteful of authority and that's enough to exclude them from being put next to Latins.
