Yes it sounds pretty similar, though Maëlie/Maëlis/Maëlle (princess) is a Breton name. It became popular before Hannah Montana, so it's not related.

How about the name Toine, is it still commonly used in francophone countries? This is my brother's name, only Dutchified into Twan
According to this source, it isn't really popular in France, with a couple dozen babies per year at best. Not sure how reliable it is, but I don't remember coming across someone named Toine. Maybe in other francophone countries? Antoine is quite common.

Btw I have a Dutch cousin named Monelle, though obviously part of her family is French. Seems even less popular than Toine.

Men: José, João, Francisco, Antônio, Carlos, Geraldo, Guilherme, Celso, Daniel, Ricardo, Rodrigo, Diego, Caio, Marcelo, Rafael, Alexandre, Fábio, Fernando, Cláudio, Paulo, Felipe, Lucas, Mateus, Heitor, Tiago, Enzo, Eduardo.

Women: Maria, Ana, Lúcia, Márcia, Cláudia, Gabriela, Isabel, Aline, Vanessa, Luciana, Juliana, Clara, Taís, Ângela, Paula, Natália, Fernanda, Larissa, Alessandra, Raquel, Luana, Sofia, Valentina, Flávia, Clotilde, Heloísa, Camila, Daniela.

These names are the most common amongst the people born from around 1950 to the present time. But there are lots of other names, some with a weird spelling or mixing the name of the father and mother; there are no limits for the creativity, in particular concerning people of the working class. The most educated people tend to be more conservative in the names.

I have a name that used to be one of the most common in this and other English-speaking countries among Baby Boomers but today would probably not even rank in the top 100. Indeed it's actually quite rare to meet someone with my name my age here...
