Default Moving to Austria

My husband and I are moving to Austria (Graz) with our 2 year old. We are all EU Citizens and my husband is from Ireland. My daughter and I have always lived in the States. I don't even know where to start with my questions. I guess to begin with, I would like to know more about Austria and the people. Anyone here move to Austria or have moved from Austria to the US. Would like some input.

Thank you.

Mossy

As you are all EU citizens, at least the legal questions should be easy to grasp.

Graz is a beautiful city, I wouldn't mind to move there myself. In particular the old town, the museums and galeries, the highlights of modern architechture. You will love it.

When I'm in Austria... I never want to leave.

Besides being a great place in it's own right, Austria is centrally located and makes the perfect home base for European Adventures.

Just about everyone under 40 speaks some English and students are generally quite fluent

I've found the lifestyle very comfortable. About the only negative is prices are high when compared to the states... part of the reason is the strong Euro. Being paid in Euros will offset some of the higher prices.

Vienna is close enough for day trips... so many great places to see... One of my favorites is the Imperial Vault... you enter the museum through vault doors to view floor after floor of the Imperial Treasure.

Don't forget Salzburg and Italy and Slovenia.

Sounds like a great opportunity... and remember to savor the moment.

Auf Wiedersehen

So glad to hear such wonderful things about Austria. I really haven't heard anything so bad like other countries I hear about. Looking forward to moving.

My husband is a native German and I lived in Germany for many years. I actually prefer the Austrian people to the Germans, who can oftentimes be cold and aloof. Austrians are much more fun loving, relaxed and laid back. I realize I'm generalizing, but for me this sums it up. Vienna is a marvelous city, though for scenery, I prefer the Voralberg area in the Alps. Salzburg is overrated and a tourist trap.

The Austrian men are also very good looking!
