Is this a thinly-veiled attempt analogy about racial attitudes?
If not...there was probably a mix of all three, although I think most human parents would probably not have approved of their daughters being impregnated by a neanderthal. Maybe allowing their sons to 'humanise' the neanderthal gene pool was not so bad, but I doubt they would have been too thrilled about a neanderthal 'daughter in law'...
