This thread is cool, I enjoyed listening to all the voice recordings. I'm on a tablet right now and couldn't play back the pico files so will have to try when I'm on my computer next time.
Would love to hear those whose native language is other than English record themselves speaking in their respective mother tongue. I'm a bit of a language geek.
You Australians have the best accents of English speakers, followed closely by Kiwis. At least to my ears.

I'd like to hear them speak in their mother tongues too. Get to it people!
I agree. This is great. I've seen people doing something similar on YouTube with the 'accent tag' or the Tumblr 'accent challenge', but it is way more fun and interesting when it's the people on your forum!
We'll see if I get up the nerve to record myself...
Do it, do it, do it!
Great idea for a thread. Like someone else said earlier, everyone sounds so good. It's so interesting.
Oh my goodness not how I thought you'd sound. You sound like the people on honey boo boo.
Well, I am probably a lot more educated and more traveled than they are. However, I can hardly NOT have a southern accent, considering that I was born in New Orleans and grew up predominately in LA, TN, VA, NC, GA, and AL! (You can throw in some Ohio, Cali, and Japan in there as well, but it's hard to counteract all that other southernness!) Then add to that mix, MD, Germany and then twenty five years of Texas and voila - you get a seriously southern accent! With some odd phrases thrown in - for instance, I interchange "you guys" and "y'all" all the time. I say "roundabout" and I also interchange "frontage road" with "service road." I call soft drinks sodas, Cokes (all of them) and soft drinks interchangeably as well.
Overall, I have to say that professionally, my southern accent has served me very well, so I'm not likely to try too hard to change it. And obviously I'm not self conscious or embarrassed by it since I posted an example here. I am proud of where I've lived and where I live now and I love the melodic swing of southern accents, even though sometimes I hear myself on video and think, "Dam, I sound country!" LOL
