Contrails is on a distinguished road
Are you asking from the point of view of Americans or the rest of the world??

I have spent considerable amounts of time outside of the US both in Europe and South America; and from experience outside the States I would say that the Statue of Liberty is the most symbolic image of the United States around the world.

New York City, as a whole is also an iconic image and I was torn between the two but in the end I believe the Statue of Liberty has the edge.

Now..from our point of view as Americans I think it all depends on where you live and what city/region you identify with the most. No doubt New Yorkers would say the Statue of Liberty while Los Angelinos would say the Hollywood sign.

For me personally....I would say Uncle Sam, but thats just me

I love the flag as well. Unfortunantley I don't like how the flag has been raped and used as a political tool these past 6 years.

I miss what that flag really stood for and really meant. Today it has become too much of a cheap gimick; a lapel pin, a graphic on Fox News, a show of support for the President??? Since when does the President, whomever he may be represent the flag and have a monopoly on it?

That flag was around long before any President came around and hopefully will still be here long after any President is gone. I look forward to the day that the flag will go back to its true meaning.

Probably the flag of The United States flying over the Capitol Building in D.C. Maybe various D.C. monuments. The flag is the most handled by people around the world.

I don't really know what symbolises the US for me. I think it represents different things to different people.

What about freedom? The ability to make it on who you are, not what you are?

But NYC and the Statue of Liberty stick out the most of those things listed.

God, I HOPE the Hollywood sign isn't the first thing people think when they hear the word America or Americans.
