...While in Wicklow people should also visit Powerscourt. It has beautiful gardens and lovely walks. It is a great place to stop and have a meal as well.
There are many old country homes and demesnes still intact around the country, and in the North. The Irish Georgian Society could probably give anyone an idea of which are open to the public.
Baronscourt, an estate of the Abercorn family, in the North has accommodations, etc. My mother's father's family were Presbyterian tenants of the Abercorns, although they left a few snarly remarks about them.
For me Ireland is a nice place for a side trip when you are in Europe, really I don't think its worth travelling half way around the world to see just by itself.

Well most people don't just go to one European country if they have travelled half way around the world. Usually people that go to Ireland also go to Britain and possibly other European countries as well. The only people I've known that will just go to Ireland are usually people with family there or Americans searching their roots.
I was just telling another member via pm how I would like to visit Ireland. I think you'd have to like nature to want to go. I think Ireland has a unique culture to it. That culture intrigues me. Like there are some countries that too similar to other countries. I wouldn't want to go to any of the Scandinavian countries because they're all the same. Why would I want to go to say Norway when it's similar to other countries?
I've met people from Ireland,
who live here now.
Inevitably we wind up talking about why they're here,
& what they miss about Ireland.
I think Ireland would be an interesting trip-
I'd love to see Dublin, especially.
Although everyone says it's insanely expensive-
it'd still be worth doing.
I'd also like to find the off the beaten path places to experience a real Irish pub.....
