In which countries in the world is looking up/being interested in genealogy or ancestry most common?

I've traced my families and got help from people in Denmark, Germany, and Canada. They had been checking with churches and other records and found me in America. So now I know cousins who descend from my great great grandfather's brothers and sisters. Pretty cool.

Nothing wrong with North Americans per se, it's great to see people outside of North America get the genealogy bug and trace their ancestry.

In my country it's normal to know the names of your seven grand(grand+)fathers and grandmothers and more. It's shame if you don't.
