How the hell could anybody know? I don't think we have many people here who have spent an extended period of time in both.

I agree with Ariete. I can only take a guess and that would be Perth being more "liveable" overall and less crime-ridden than Marseille. I haven't been to Marseille but it has the reputation for being one of the most dangerous European cities. It has always been a destination for pirates, smugglers, drug gangs, mafia-like organizations etc.

I don't know much about Perth. But Marseille is the poorest, less safe and dirtiest of all big and medium French cities. So I don't really think Perth can lose this poll. To like living in Marseille, you need to like anarchy and being quite extrovert. Marseille is a great city if you are a very social individual who's happy with little. The cost of life in Marseille is incredibly low for Western European's standards.

If you want to live in Marseille, you will need a gun. Completely out of control. They wanted to send in the army a couple of times already to reclaim the city, basically.

Obviously Perth from reading comments about Marseille. I live in Perth and it is a great place. People are flocking here from overseas and other places in Australia to live. It has a wonderful climate, big shopping malls, some of the best beaches in the world and is often voted in the top cities to live.

Lol apples and watermelon comparison.

Personally, I prefer Marseille to most cities in general. Yes, it's dirty and crime ridden, but it also has a great deal of history, it's a melting pot of cultures, has excellent cuisine, is right on the mediterranean, and is just a short train ride away from places like Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Monaco, Nice and Lyon. Perth is one of the most isolated cities in one of the most isolated continents in the world and while it may have alot to offer in terms of quality of life and economic prospects, there's more to life than having a nice lawn and a six-figure job. No comparison to be made here at all.

Marseille was named Europe's Capital of Culture for 2013. It has ALOT to offer someone.

And people saying you need a gun in Marseille must thing you need a gun in Boston or New York as well. Completely ridiculous.

It is all to do with choice for sure. I've lived in London and Dublin and like both but Perth even if isolated is lovely. It has the best beaches in the world and the south west of WA is wonderful with beautiful Karri forests and wine growing country. Huge amounts of English live here so it has a lot of charms.

Silly comparison, most of these will come down to Australia vs France.
