That was years ago, a lot has happened since. I would not move there anymore if you gave me a green card on a silver platter
But since American includes Canada, I might go there, if only it weren't so cold and there were more colored people

Being a tiny nation (in population) and mostly ignored in America, they have a desire to spout in every conversation you have with them (at least here) about how wonderful Australia is. I just nod and smile politely. If you really want to get them in a tizzy just tell them Australia is Great Britain with sunshine. Watch out.

Canadians aren't Americans. But what happened since Obama was elected?

Nor does the world care whether there are 1, 2 or 15 superpowers as long as they don't turn into bullies, which is exactly the US' problem since it has lost all its credibility and moral integrity (if it ever had that to begin with, but now everyone knows).
Except for 2 or 3 good TV series and movies per year US cultural exports are crap as well. The times when the US produced good music was 3 or 4 decades ago. I wish the US made something good again, be in culture, or products or whatever...
This is puerile anti-Americanism. It's antipathy based on delusion and that delusion I have to believe is based on antipathy since it has no basis in fact. The US makes most of the world's semiconductors, semi cap equipment, hardware and software, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and dozens of other categories. At least the intellectual property is owned by US companies and split into little shares that are listed on the stock market, which is the largest in the world. It's not boasting, people. It's a counterpoint to the garbage that the "only thing left is the military".

"America" doesn't include Canada, as it's a nickname for the US. North America is the geographic entity that includes Canada and surprisingly for many, Mexico. And did you know that Mexico is called the United Mexican States? By your logic, you should be calling Mexico the "US". What it does reveal is that your nomenclature is based on emotion rather than intellect.

Maybe you should start reading the comments section of major Australian news web sites, to find what most locals really think about living in Australia.

What would prompt a Canadian at a house party (in Toronto), maybe an hour after meeting me, to start quizzing me about Cuba and S. America? When I answered, he looked right at me and said something like "wow you are not like most Americans are you".

Canadians stereotype Americans much?

I think people who comment on news sites are some of the most negative people there is.

Just browse around random facebook pages for different news networks.

That's quite ironic coming from an American. American news outlets are notoriously provincial.
