Not likely. America lost the Vietnam war and the war on drugs, and the Constitution was immediately surrendered in the war on terror. Not a good track record.

On the drug issue it looks like the Philippines are going to win their war on drugs so congratulations.
Our new leader is different than LBJ, Nixon, or Bush.
His strategy is unprecedented and based off of historical learnings, I have a feeling we’re going to win.

That depends on how you look at it. On a domestic level, it was a loss as it enabled North Vietnam to conquer the South. If you look at it from a global perspective, it was quite a success as it marked the point at which communism stopped expanding.
It looks like we will. China is running scared; the EU has predictably betrayed us but who cares, we’re positioned to win this one.
To my friends in Asia and Europe, game on!
We will win what? Higher aluminum and steel prices? oh...all this winning, I can barely stand it. The Dow dropped 500 points on this winning news.. If China was the problem we could import both aluminum and steel from Korea, IMO this is just another shiny thing tossed out by Trump to distract us.

Th Philippines are winning the war on drugs? By what measure, how many extrajudicial killings Duterte's thugs committed? Now Trump is claiming that killing drug dealers is the way to end the war on drugs in the US, God help us. What a way to fight a 'war on drugs' kill your own citizens without any formal charges or trial
Communism, Terror, Drugs, Poverty; these are all things America has declared war on.
Of course, we are going to have a losing track record when instead of declaring war on places or people, you fight ideas, conditions and, products. Might as well declare a war on Jealouy while we're at it. Well, technically, we did win against Communism but, that's because Communism loses automatically by default.
The War for Independence from England? A clear goal, we won that.
The Civil War, primarily to end slavery and secession? We can call that a win, barely. A civil war can hardly ever be called a win but, slavery needed to go.
Mexican War? Take Texas and Arizona, yea we won that...until we gave it back through weak immigration policies...
World War 1? Got no idea why this pointless exchange of lives occured but we stopped the Germans from killling more people... well for about 25 years...
World War 2? Germans again, killing er'body. They needed to be stopped, and the US stopped them! A bloody mess but, if we didn't step in with our pure industrial dominance, the world would have been much worse off.
Since then though, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria; America has not won, or even prospered (outside of the military-industrial complex) at all from any of these... and these are targets, let alone ...ideas...

It will also add to the costs for things like the U.S Military, beer, baseball bats, cost of energy and cars etc etc.
Quote:
Trump believes the tariffs will safeguard American jobs but many economists say the impact of price increases for consumers of steel and aluminum, such as the auto and oil industries, will be to destroy more jobs than they create. *

This is not so true. South Korea has still become a success story from a poor country to one of the most developed economies in the world in little over 30 years and this is in part thanks to the S.Korea war effort lead by the US but included large UK, Canada, Aus, NZ, Colombia, Philippines, France, BeNeLux, South Africa, Thailand and Turkey forces also.
Vietnam involved guerrilla warfare the US was never going to win, just like guerrilla warfare kicked the Russians out of Afghanistan and has raged over 50 years of war in Colombia and given birth to a new jihadi style terrorist warfare - guerrilla warfare doesn't follow the conventional rules of war. Despite this US involvement has paved the way for countries like Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan to progress and they are, their economies aren't doing too badly but like South Korea, the onus is mainly on their shoulders now.
If the US isolates itself it will lose but if it has the foresight to not alienate its traditional core partners such as the UK, Canada, Aus, NZ, South Africa, Philippines, South Korea, Japan and conservative leaning countries of Latin America; yes even Mexico, also Colombia & Panama then the outcome will more positively inclined in the US' favour. Unfortunately Trump is a douche, an irrational figure that will eventually be the demise of the US as even traditional allies are game to make enemies of.

Trump is a temporary nuisance though. At best, he'll have another term.
