Need I tell you about your own country? From your language, which is part of the Finno-Ugric branch of the Uralic language family, Russian occupation/a love of vodka and spirits, genetics, and probably other aspects of your culture like food.etc. The eastern influence should certainly be palpable.

You experienced the Eastern influence first hand on your bus tours through Italy and GB? Truth is, you are drastically overestimating the Russian influence in Finland.

Genetically we are a mixed bunch of Swedes and Balts. Our cuisine is interchangeable with the Swedish one, and we drink beer and not vodka. The Finno-Ugric branch was born on the banks of Volga, right there with the Indo-European languages.

Many people say that we are somewhere between the West and the East, but it is not true. We know nothing about the East and know nothing about Russia.

Just a wannabe Western European...

I'd consider Finland to be Northern European but certainly not Western European.

A show of hands here, who thinks of Finland as Western Europe? Keep in mind it borders Russia, is on the far east of the European continent (sans Russia) and as far east as Jerusalem. If Finland is 'Western Europe' than all of Europe sans Russia is 'western' Europe.
