Mmhmm...just expressing my personal opinion that Ireland should belong to the Irish, and the Union Jack has no place being raised over Irish soil...
By the same logic, are you willing to give Australia back to the Australians? Giving northern Ireland 'back to the Irish' would mean displacing people who have lived there for centuries and putting much of the 'Irish' populace under a state that they have chosen not to be a part of. There is a far better argument for the union jack having 'no place' over Australian soil.

I am not sure that if Northern Ireland became part of the Republic of Ireland that Unionists would be compelled to leave. They'd likely just have to make do with the new arrangement. Or leave.

Didn't say anything about displacement, more just political integration with the Republic of Ireland. Though those who refuse to integrate can go back to Britain.

You say 'go back' to Britain but they didn't come from Britain in the first place?

The people who live there have no desire for that to happen - the idea of a united Ireland is unpopular on both sides, so you should stick your nose out of business that does not concern you - and that goes for any ridiculous self-proclaimed Irish-American who thinks the Brits are imperialists and refuse to give up the last bit of the empire - or just about anyone who thinks they are qualified to comment on Northern Ireland and a United Ireland, without understanding the sentiment of the people who actually live in both NI and the ROI.
(and, no Union Jacks are raised over Irish soil - since Northern Ireland is an integral part of the United Kingdom, and has been for a very long time).
Well its very sensitive and VERY VERY ignorant to compare it to a colony or anything like that when we are actually a PART of the UK.
We aren't a territory or anything like that. Just so they know.
