And were also the worst slave-traders, maybe behind Portugal.

I don't really think any of the former colonists was particularly merciful toward their colonies...

In Belarus, certain groups of countries are "famous".

1. Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania as our close neighbors, ex USSR countries and places that are easy to visit.

2. West European countries, first of all Germany, France, UK, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands.

3. Some holiday destinations: Turkey, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, in a way also Thailand and Egypt.

4. Obviously the USA because of technologies, movies and the English language which nowadays is largely associated with America.

5. China is gaining ground as an emerging power and "manufacturer of everything".

Countries like Japan, S Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico are not really on our radars. The same can be said even about many ex Soviet countrries- Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Moldova and even Estonia.

Sushi is popular here, Brasil soccer team is well respected, Mexican soap operas are well.known, but few people actually visit these countries and not many are even interested to visit, I am afraid.

Why not? In the European context, both are quite prominent.
