I checked the main supermarkets website. It depends a lot in what sort of salmon or bananas you want.

I shop almost always every day the grocery stuff. I guess I buy bananas every second day. Most times I buy just one or two bananas at a discount store. They cost normally 1.09 € or 1.19 €, when on sale they cost 0.99 or 0.88 €. Prices are very stable. The prices for milk change normally two times a year. That's when the grocery retailers negotiate new prices with the dairy industry. Almost every store offers the milk for the same price. That's also valid for eggs. If Aldi change the prices, every other grocery store has to change their prices, too. Because they have to stay competetive.

COL index sites are mostly very inaccurate, I agree.

Even packages are measured. Just look at the label, or ask your mum.

Well, when you have Internet it isn't that hard. The McDonald's website, the City website, a supermarket website and an article of an economics newspaper gave many of those prices. The rest came from my head.

I wish they had given the measurement in pounds as this is an American site and most of us use pounds not kgs.

So confused.

British people don't talk in KG and honestly nearly every package that they give is the same size.

just multiply the price per pound times 2.2 to get kg.

divide price per gallon US by 3.79 to get L.

Gallon UK divide by 4.55

Bananas are $0.29/lb x 2.2 = $0.64/kg
