I'm patriotic and voted for Vienna

Honestly Paris, Berlin, Rome, Nice, Madrid and Barcelona are much better than Vienna, altough it is a great place.

London is horrible, I lived there for 10 months, it's basically overcrowded unaffordable (i paid about 1900 dollars rent a month for a small apartment in a housing project in a ghetto area (hackney)), dangerous and dirty. It offers a lot if you can afford it, I couldn't.

I don't know why americans like salzburg or prague. Salzburg is a tiny town of about 110,000 people, very ugly housing, a boring nightlife, and snobbish suburbs. It has a very unreal feel to it because of all the tourists and high society from all over austria and is very exepnsive. Prague is better, but also something of a polished town which would be nice it it wasn't that ovrrun, but honestly not that special that amerians pay thousands of dollars to see it.

In my opinion you can't beat Barcelona and Paris, but Vienna is great, old town is really romantic, imperial buildings are impressive, the metro is efficent the city overall is clean and safe, there are great museums, night life is ok, well if you're interested in history you'll like it, if not you can eat great food, there are skyscrapers and the biggest mall of europe. The outskirts are somewhat grey and boring, they are solely residential. if you come in summer you need to go to the Donauinsel, it's in island in the danube, you can bathe and ly at the beach for free next to skyscrapers. It's nice if you have a lot of time tosee real viennese people having fun in the sun.

In what sense are they better than Vienna? Do you think of better as in for the American tourist? Vienna is supposed to have a very high quality of living.

Have you been to Budapest? I used to live there. How would you compare it to Vienna considering both were part of the Hapsburg empire.

I agree London is horrible although it really isn't representative of England. I assume Vienna is still Austrian. London cannot be considered English anymore. Most of London is dirty too. To make things worse it can smell.

Americans tend to have a glorified image of London and England as a whole. It may come from Hollywood movies. The countries aren't particularly similar in reality. People in London don't wear bowler hats and talk RP English.

My cusin in London work as an investment banker. He's making around 100k a year yet he lives in an ugly neighbourhood in SE London. He's considered cheap though.

I suppose London is alright if you have to be there because of your career. I've heard young people say they want to work there early on in their career and then move elsewhere. Then again do you really want to be in London at all when you can be somewhere much nicer? It can take many years before you can enjoy living in London. Many of the problems remain even if you're richer than the average.

Bath is the nicest city English city I've seen. Oxford is alright too. The nicest ones in England are in my opinion usually spa towns or those with a Roman history. Chester is another one worth mentioning.

Stockholm has an amazing quietness to it and a subtle European architechture is a little off from what you think inherently European that is gorgeous. And the Swedes are unbelievably nice although, they also seem to like hot dogs, an inappropriate amount.......

Edinburgh, Scotland was not on your list, but is a fantastic city with a tremendous amount of things to do. The museums are great, transportation is easy, and everything you need is right there. Great place.

London, hands down! I just love the feel/look of the city-the hustle and bustle and the underground (what can I say, I grew up in the country)!!

I think the cities I named are better for tourists, I haven't lived in them, but I think quality of life would be worse there than Vienna, to me theyseemed kind of dirty.

Comparing budapest to vienna, vienna has broader streets with more trees, more impressive palaces, but it's also newer. The Stephandsdom is from the medieval ages, but most of the cit's core is from baroque or 19th century, you wouldn't find anything like the old Buda (or was Pest the old town on the hill?). Vienna seems somehow bigger than Budapest, athough they have the same population, and since it was the capital of austria-hungary also more expensive. You should have come, it's only 2.5 hours by train from budapest

I agree england is a nice country, I found canterbury and stratford very nice, and yeah it really seems like londoners don't feel english. It's the same in Austria though, we are an 8 million mainly rural country with a 2 million capital, Austria is very conservative while Vienna is moderately liberal and Viennese are much wealthier than other austrians. They hate us! But englishmen hate London too, don't they?

I love Madrid -- it is so cosmopolitian yet Spanish at the same time. Great shopping, people watching, museums, and of course, food.

When I was in Barcelona it was also nice, but felt more like it could be any big city anywhere in the world.
