*excluding just flying over, of course.

For me, it's out of somewhere near Santa Fe, northern New Mexico, US. I measured using a ruler in Google Earth, and I would say the furthest is 1,100 km from both the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

Chongqing, China would come second. It's actually about 1,400km from the nearest point in the Yellow or East China sea going east, but the nearest coastline is actually the Gulf of Tonkin, off the coast of Guangxi, which is 900km at the nearest (according to google earth).

In Australia, probably around Tenant Creek, NT, which is surprisingly only about 500km from the nearest part of the Gulf of Carpenteria, despite being about 1000km from Darwin. In WA, Kalgoorlie is 600km east of Perth but only about 370km due north of Esperance, on the 'Southern Ocean.'

Tashkent -- which is 1100 miles / 1775 km from the Indian Ocean.

I have traveled through some areas of South Dakota that are almost as far from the nearest ocean -- about 1700 km to either the Gulf of Mexico or the Gulf of California.

Apparently the farthest point from the ocean in North America is near Kyle, South Dakota. I've never been to South Dakota, but looking at a map, the closest I've been to Kyle was probably North Platte, Nebraska. So that must be the answer. I've never been particularly far from the ocean anywhere except the United States.

That's one of the reasons I'm here now, I can't stand the oceans.

Urumqi China. It holds the record for the city furthest from any sea coastline. 1600 miles / 2500 km.

Yes, lakes don't count, nor do fully enclosed bodies of water like the Caspian Sea. The Mediterranean Ocean does count in this instance since it's an 'arm' or part of the ocean.
