I said poorman's version, not poor mans food.

IMO a poorman's version is something that is inferior to the original product that it has roots in.

I love any cooking that is down to earth, unpretentious and just downright tasty. Southern food is one of those. It reminds me of homemade Mexican food.

I work with alot of African- American ladies and they introduced me to this food.

American tex mex is not inferior sorry.

It is absolutely fantastic.. I would be in heaven eating in a tex mex restaurant.. Mm lol

No, I have been in the restaurant business for a long time and know what good food is. Southern food doesn't fall under the parameters of what good food is in my experienced and knowledgeable opinion. No one is going to spend $80 for a bowl of grits.

It's simple food meant to feed a lot of mouths. That's it.
