Ok. That makes it a bit better. Phew.

Well, nevertheless, never seen one. Apparently the police, firemen and ambulances have them, and also qualified security guards can use one if the mall or hotel has them. So in sight, no.

Well I am not a "he" but a she

That is what is meant by AED, in English, and French.

I have seen 1 in the USA, no where else. Definitely not like France where they are everywhere!

Having one near during a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest can make a huge difference in survival rates.

I know in the UK there is an organization trying to place them in schools etc but the funding seems a major issue.

If they were as common place as a fire extinguisher many lives would be saved.

Wow. Oh Jesus christ. That is so sick. I'm beyond words. Truly, this is really really sick.

NO, definitely not any of those here. Never seen one, and never heard of this before. Wow.

It is only used in case of an emergency when someone's heart has stopped. Which could be a child, and adult, Sudden cardiac death can happen at any age. A few weeks ago it happened to a 9 year old in the bath, she died.

Kind of sad to relate this with being overweight. Lots of thin young people and athletes die from cardiac issues each year.

Yep. It's meant to be used by trained responders. You place the pads on the person's chest, then the AED analyzes their heartbeat and determines whether they need a shock.

I never knew any of this until I had to take a First Aid/CPR/AED class for a part-time position I'm considering. I never noticed them before, but now I do see them around occasionally.

No. No. And no.

It is a device programmed to deliver a shock if a shockable rhythm is detected.

There is no such thing as shocking your heartbeat back.

This machine will not allow you to deliver a shock if it is not warranted.

Just because you don't see them does not mean they are not there.

They are everywhere.

Not all people who get heart attacks are fat or outwardly unhealthy, Ariete.

They are everywhere.

if there are no signs and I don't know they are there how could I use one to help someone (I have BLS and ALS training)

Besides being able to see the machine I see many signs to help me know where the machines are located in France.

Without knowing their location they are useless to the public in general.
