You got it. And Canada is also pretty safe, except for greyhound buses where people tend to behead other people. Germany is one of the safest countries there is. That doesn't mean that it is 100% safe, no place is.
I think it's the fact that Germany is so safe that makes everyone freak out when something dose happen.
In Spain security is absolute in terms of violent crime .Most of the few crimes that exist are usually
passional crimes,or similar.
There is only danger but no violent in 2 cities, Madrid and Barcelona for tourists with foreigners pickpockets from Eastern Europe, by your to deftly steal the wallet in the agglomerations meters etc.-
I have not known to one alone person who has been violently docked in my life in Spain.
However I read in this same Forum american parents who suffered for the life of his son who was traveling to Spain.-
I am afraid that the picture of the security of the European countries for some americans is seriously deformed almost is grotesquely .
Because Europe is incomparably more secure than the USA.-
Luckily there are still no unsafe neighborhoods in Spain and there are very few firearms in the population
as in USA.-
Germany is surely not the safest first world country but no one with reason could think that Germany is the least safest first world country.
Some votes in this poll are entirely absurd. Are there people that really think that Sweden or Spain are the least safest first world countries? Simply ridiculous.
For a tourist.. Most European cities will havd a higher probability of petty crime than a US city. Americans don't worry about petty theft and pick pockets like Europeans do. It's why we are typically easy targets .
However, the homicide rate is much higher in USA than Europe.
Is your average tourist going to be involved in gang activity and be killed? Most likely not...

That is a stupid stereotype and a myth. Pickpocketing and similar is extremely rare in Europe bar a few small hotspots within certain cities, like the Colosseum area in Rome.

Actually I really find the European big cities pretty unsafe as far as pickpockets go, with Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Brussels, Madrid, Prague being the worst.

Maybe because of your ethnicity you stand out. But these are very big cities and where pickpockets congregate are just a few hotspots and streets.

This is true for most developed countries. The U.S has significantly less areas that have high street density populations, except for New York. So comparatively pickpocketing in Europe is high. Pickpocketing is probably the only crime were the U.S and places like Japan stack up. I can say in Houston the only time pickpocketing happens is at the zoo, amusement parks, sports events and clubs. Unlike Europe and basically the rest of the world their are very few districts that are crowded with people in the average U.S city. Even the densest areas aren't usually high in street activity. So from a U.S perspective pickpocketing is high.
