Barstow is in California's Mojave Desert. Apalachicola is in Florida's panhandle sort of near Pensacola. Chula Vista is the second largest city in the San Diego metro area. ok, got some more:

Lake Charles

Puyallup
Bullhead City
Truckee
Santee
Baton Rouge

I think this shows that non Americans know plenty of our cities. I had to dig deep on that second list. Bet most Americans wouldn't know as many lesser famous cities in other countries.

Because most of the cities outside the US aren't used as much in Hollywood movies.
All we see is Vancouver/Toronto/Montreal/Tijuana/London/Paris/Monte Carlo/Berlin/Prague/Venice/Rome/Istanbul/Hong Kong and sometimes
Rio/Amsterdam/Madrid/Barcelona/Milan/Florence/Vienna/Dubai/Jerusalem/Mumbai/Bangkok/Kyoto/Tokyo/Sydney but that's pretty much it.
