Not as bizarre as the people that deny the influence of the British, or their continuous presence throughout our history.

I'm intrigued olgabolga, what is your ethnicity?

Just so you know, I have British, German, Irish & Norwegian ancestry.

According to the most recent census that is true, but no demographer believes it. It is universally agreed that the census greatly undercounts the number of Americans with British ancestry for reasons that have been outlined by other posters on this thread.

These are the total number of immigrants from various European countries since 1820. You'll note that the UK is second only to Germany. If you add the total number of immigrants / colonial settlers before 1820 and the UK will come out with the highest number.

50 million people (almost 25% of the total population) claimed English ancestry (so not even including Scottish or Welsh) in the 1980 census. Even then it was undoubtedly an undercount.
What do you mean “no demographer believes it”? It’s incontrovertible fact. There are a number of ethnicities that are undercounted, and no, even if some people had British ancestry, if it becomes a small enough percentage, they drop it out - hence the decrease in number over the years. That’s not “undercounting”. It’s just not relevant to those people anymore.

Yes, those are the total number of British immigrants since 1820, which is why it’s a dumb statistic and tells us nothing. Britain fell down the list of countries sending immigrants to America rapidly post the 1810s, which is in massive contrast to Australia and Canada.

You also deliberately understate every other European ethnicity present in America by far, contrary to what can be immediately Googled, revealing a bizarre obsession with asserting some kind of nonexistent British homogeneity and ownership over American culture. Which is complete, BS factual incorrectness on its face.

50 million people is an undercount?! You know what, please get over yourself. It’s not an undercount. 50 million people in this country don’t have British ancestry, and you’re ass-mad that you can’t generalize Americans like you do British people. Too bad.

Like, a huge chunk of the 32 million that has British ancestry is Black American.

We should not be here to pander to Anglophiles who want to undermine what makes American culture unique by erasing all other ethnic and cultural influence from American society but British. If you want a branch plant of British culture, move to Australia. America is its own cultural superpower.

Good luck explaining how Jazz, Rock, and Hip Hop were invented if you think those are “basically just British culture”.
