No, they are jealous of the fact that we live happy, comfortable lives where pretty much anything you need is accessible. You have been reading too much propaganda or watching anti-American news reports.

Of course, Gentoo! That's crazy talk!
I mean, if we just look at this report on the happiest countries in the world, the US doesn't even crack the top 10 for the 4th year in a row!!
I think I know who's riding the propaganda train, and it sure as hell isn't weltschmerz.
Honestly....this thread is so, so very stupid. I don't see anyone from any other country starting these "why do you hate us?" threads. I would have to say for the vast majority - America is not on our minds, we DON'T hate you, and it's all in your head.
Jealousy is such a cop-out excuse. This would mean that people in other countries spend most of their waking hours thinking about the US rather than going about their day to day lives. To believe that is ridiculous. Let's try some of the other reasons already mentioned in this thread. Our country doesn't have the best track record when it comes to foreign policy. Not to mention the way we project ourselves. Think about it; if someone at your job felt the need to constantly tell everyone else that they're the best there is, that person would probably be not well liked. Just saying.
That is pretty much it in a nutshell.. I wouldn't say at all that all Americans are like this, but if you could sum up at least in my estimation why people around the world have this negative view of Americans is because there is a perception that America and Americans think they are the best... I mean truth be told, who at work likes the rogue guy who thinks he is so much better than everyone else on the team and that the department would sink without him... He's always in your face about it and reminds you at every turn...Its like, get over yourself honey lol

No where in my post did I say the USA was the only country where people live happy lives. Read it again.

Saying they are "jealous" would imply that other countries are unable to attain the happiness and comfort of one living in United States. So, yeah, you kinda did say that.

Then why even mention that others are jealous because we are happy and have access to things? If that's not what you meant then you should not have said it if you want to be properly understood. So let me ask you; why did you make such a daft statement then?

I'd just like an honest opinion about this, especially from Europeans and Asians. Its like everyone is against America and has a bone to pick against it. Is it because USA is the only superpower left? Is it because USA is the watchdog of the world and interferes with other countries? Is it because its perceived as colonizing and taking over oil reserves half a world away? Is it because of economic disparity or racism, in light of recent events going on?
... and they call us Canadians insecure.
