Didn't Russia predate the Soviet Union then help form it and was the largest Soviet republic and where the capital was? Once the Soviet Union broke up Russia, along with the other republics regained independent status. I don't think it's necessarily THE successor state although it seems to want to be thought of that way.

It is actually the successor state to the Soviet Union, since the Russian SFR was the largest constituent member, just like Russia is also the successor state to the Russian Empire.

90% of people who live in Siberia are white Slavic Russians. Plus add in Ukranians, Belarusians and other Europeans immigrants who live there and you will get white population of at least 95%. Here is an example...

Guess that makes sense in a way. So would Serbia be the successor state to Yugoslavia?
