This is a question for non-US forumers. If you had an all expenses paid, week long vacation to the US, which one would you choose assuming this was your first visit to the United States?Even if you've been to the U.S. before, which city would you choose if you had never visited before? You would be limited to the cities on the list above.
San Francisco, I guess. Chicago and Boston would also be great, but I can go to them anytime in a short drive. But I'd honestly rather just take the money and go explore and enjoy nature.
First trip on my own was to NYC, Washington, Boston and a road trip along the coast of Maine (plus Montreal). Before that, a year long stay in Missouri with my parents, can't remember that, though.
I'd probably go to San Francisco or Seattle on my next trip.

So did you go to NYC first and then Boston and DC later?

Our trip lasted for 3 weeks. It was something like: New York - Washington - (overnight bus to) Boston - got a car and drove all the way to Acadia National Park with multiple stops on the way - Montreal - Boston
Nashville would be an excellent choice for a foreign person to get a taste of America, Branson and Vegas are also excellent choices.
I think choosing any number of smaller cities in the Midwest or Appalachia would be more illuminating that most of the large cities that are on your list if the visitor wants to really catch the flavor of the country.
