Irene CD, ( What sort of name is that!) I take it you had Brit bashing too! She is Russian, that sums it up. Russia is a backward country but people are too polite to say it because they show the roubles.

I just hand them my debit card.... whether inside the bank, or the drive through window.... the Teller fills out any paperwork for their use . My one bank allows Checks or Cash depositing right at the drive up Debit/Credit card cash withdraw dispenser outside too. You just place it in the slot and push accept... and I am just in a small town USA.
I've used my credit card quite a bit down in the States and the last time I went a few month ago it was still required to sign the receipt.

Now the larger stores like Wal-mart and Costco do not require signatures for Credit card purchases unless the amount exceeds $50 or $100.

...lol!...
... signatures are no longer accepted in Aus... its either tap, if less than $100 or enter a PIN if over.
The problem with tap, is if you drop your card, and I find it, I can do some real damage if you don't notice right away. lol
Yeah this is the only issue with it, it really is a trade off between convenience and security.. Having said that, there are mechanisms in place to nulify that damage and that would be to immediately report the card lost/stolen as soon as you are aware and dispute charges that weren't made by you..
I rarely pay for anything with cash anymore and always use my Aerogold infinite Visa so to me that card is a part of my body
I second that LOL... its exactly the same in Canada - some stores I go to won't accept tap with my Visa and therefore I must enter the pin..
ha... although I was laughing at the drive through bank. The only thing we really have drive through is bottle shops
