I've spent 20+ years enjoying Detroit's downtown, museums, sports, concerts, pubs, festivals, architecture, and people. multiple times per year.
I have never.....never once, been hassled by anyone, for any reason, at all, ever.
I do loooooove the opinions of people who have never set foot in within city limits though.
Agreed or just dismiss it because of the negative aspects - as if there are no positives... Its just so neat and clean to say - the place is a barren wasteland of a dump... We have to pick some place so might as well be Detroit...
Wow fantastic - i've only seen the buildings from the outside - clearly I need to explore further.. Really beatiful building inside and out! Detroit should stage an 'Open Doors' event like in T.O where they open up all the places of architectural note along with guides who will give a tour and explain the history..
Actually - with the lack of love Detroit gets from her fellow 'countrymen' lol - maybe we should buy Detroit haha
Are people really saying Detroit is an underrated tourist attraction and being serious about it? Am I actually reading this?
Unfortunately. All they see is the "ruin porn", and gobble up the hype the media stuffs down their gullets.

It's a shame, really. I don't know what every one is so scared of. I'm a skinny white guy from Canada, and I have no problem walking around by myself. lol

Man.....I think there is one, but I can't find it. But yes, you really need to dig in there.

I always thought that for most tourists (especially Europeans) Chicago and Boston would have nothing new and interesting to offer? The people who voted for NYC are just insane I guess...
My vote is for LA even though I've never visited. From what I've heard people have really high expectations of an exciting city, with Hollywood glamour but that it's rather sprawled, seedy and difficult for tourists to get around.
Perhaps Europeans dont like LA because it's like the antithesis of what most European cities are like.
LA has tons of walkable neighborhoods, the problem is you need a car to drive to each one because they're spread out all over LA and Orange county.
LA is def one of my fav cities because there is so much to do. You literally have everything there from downtown LA to Echo Park, Silver Lake, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu, Laguna Beach, Pasadena, Runyon Canyon trails, Getty Museum, Mulholland Drive, San Fernando Valley, Griffith Observatory, La Brea Tar pits, The Grove, the Farmers Market, just to name a few... Whenever I'm in LA I feel like I cannot possibly cover it all.... it's just overwhelming to me

It's difficult for Californians to get around in, never mind anyone else.
