You do not like Kiev, Ukraine?? Why not it is so gorgeous! The hills, the huge river, the mother of all Russian Cities. It is so cultural!! Plus it is a large city that contributes towards the world's economy (In Petrol)
Kiev has lower crime too, why would ever want to move out there? Lol

Seriously, though, it's not my sales pitch, I'd really rather not corrupt the beautiful country with a bunch of the problems I'm trying to escape...But, the trend is well documented, there are at last estimate, ONE MILLION of us in Mexico! That makes it the country most populated with US citizens of any other foreign nation. Interesting, huh? The things you learn while living there!
Thankfully, it's a big enough place, unless you're in an ExPat community, you don't have to actually SEE THEM!! And health care is far more accessible and affordable, I had my 14 month old son there for $1,000.00
That's a grand, cash, as opposed to sucking up $25,000.00 tax dollars because I didn't have health insurance and using medicaid or some other all controlling assistance. I had a fabulous pregnancy, wonderful delivery, and this child is the healthiest of all four of my boys!
It's not FOR everyone, just people who value being free and spending what money they do have wisely, and being HAPPY while doing it!

I travel a LOT, and I know what you mean about Cali!
This made me laugh! And Connecticut is pretty cool, I spent some time in New Haven years ago, and really liked the community. I liked Concord, New Hampshire, too! And Boston is my favorite place to watch the sun come up!
I love the East coast, but these days, I am happiest OUT of the US!

A theocratic dictatorship
[quote=crystalblue;2553154]im getting sick of the people that want to make this country a theocracy.
My sentiments, as well!
I'd rather be enslaved and know it than labor under the delusion of freedom while imprisoned! Something about keeping it real just helps my feelings!
I had much rather live an honest, miserable reality, than some twisted, dreamworld lie. You can improve honest misery, but if the dreamworld shatters, you have total devastation that was really always right there, only being denied. I think it's the root of a lot of the psychological problems Americans seem to experience that other populations don't seem to suffer. Unrealistic expectations, delusions, and the inevitable awakening that makes for afternoons at Mc Donalds with an AK-47!
I honestly wish I could be the ultimate Patriot and save this place from itself, but that will get you crucified, if not literally, certainly in effigy. If I could have dinner with historical figures, I'd most want to speak with our founding father's and see what they think of where we are as a nation.
If I wasn't convinced it would be pointless to do so, I'd stay and fight for this country's right to become what it set out to be. My American dream was a recurring nightmare, and I've been CURED!!
My nationality is GLOBAL.
I'm a human, of Earth, and our village is vast!
Sorry for pontificating, but I have pretty strong feelings on this.
I was wondering how many like me there were, that's what sparked this thread! Thanks for indulging me!

I remember a comment on a tv discussion over here not so long ago..The quote was attributed to either Franklin or Jefferson [ I can`t recall ] around the time of the Declaration of Independence and was along the lines of ``Whichever form of government we decide on we have to make sure it is NOT democracy``
Anyone cast any light on it?? I`ve done a search [ not extensive granted] but came up with nothing...

American Ex-Pat's are the damnedest breed!
We want our freedoms, AND to be able to exercise them!
Change the channel if you don't like the show!

“A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”
“The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive.”
“A society that will trade a little liberty for a little order will lose both, and deserve neither”
“Every generation needs a new revolution.” Thomas Jefferson, all of the above
“Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.” Howard Zinn
I love Thomas Jefferson, The American Aristotle!
My source for quotes is fabulous, this is where you can find the goodz....

New Zealand
check Expat Exposed: Behind the Hype in New Zealand before going to New Zealand (especially to live) to see if you are the sort of person who will fit in before spending all the money to go down there. It is a lovely place to visit.
Its immigration service has been aggressively marketing it for the last few years in an attempt to solicit skilled migrants, but not all of them have settled in well or were given the treatment they were led to expect, and only recently did a few of them band together and decide to put some of the "other side of New Zealand" out on the web. Any country has its good and bad points, so be sure to do your research before moving!
