Which is the better country - Portugal or Brazil?

Tie it into any reason you want - economics, crime issues, love of life issues, cost of living issues, quality of life issues, etc.

But, try to think in terms of WHERE WOULD YOU RATHER LIVE?

I would choose Portugal

1. Much safer
2. I have family living in Portugal
3. Brazil's cities are too chaotic for me
4. Location very convenient to travel in Europe
5. More cohesive society there are serious regional rivalries in Brazil and a lot of poverty
6. Less of a gap between the have's and have nots
7. It is near Spain one of my favorite European countries
8. Parts of Portugal have nice mild weather which suits me
9. Truth be told I biased my roots are in Portugal but the poverty and crime levels in Brazil are the tipping point.

Portugal:
- Much less crime
- It's in Europe
- Milder weather (not as hot and humid)
- Less dangerous animals

Rio looks gorgeous too (except favelas of course), but it's still not a place where I would like to live.

Neither city? A small brain fart there it seems.
Portugal as a whole is a better place to live.

For me, Brazil, of course, because I am brazilian; no country is better than our own (unless in situations of war, dictatorship or persecution, which is not the case). But I must admit that for people from other countries, Portugal would be a better choice because it's much more peaceful and placed in Europe.

If Brazil would get its crime problem under control, I'd live in Brazil. I'm from Puerto Rico so Brazil is more similar to me culturally than Portugal is.

Interesting. I hope you do realize that Brazil is one hell of a big country, so not all of Brazil is a war zone. Regarding your second statement; Europe is not the center of the universe, so choosing a country for that reason seems a bit backward to say the least. For third point; again Brazil is a huge country and not all of it is hot and humid. According to Wikipedia there are some regions that are actually cold. To your last point... No comments.

That being said, if I have to pick a place, that be Brazil. Too big, too exotic, to new and too full of nature, beaches and contrasts.
