Canada has an identity crisis. What is being Canadian anyway? I'm canadian and I don't even know (or care... that's a problem) Hockey, beer, beavers, maple syrup, mounties? There's essentially no known history, there's very little culture (indian culture and indians are despised in Canada for the most part) and it has weak politics. When you combine these things with the fact that Canada is such a huge country in area but a relatively small country in population, it makes it tough to be "one". There's not a lot of national pride in Canada. People just kind of live and do their own thing and don't seem to give a **** about much.
I will say I think Canada is in a bit of a tough position, being situated right next to the United States, as well as being massive. You'd expect Canada would be a powerhouse country but instead it's has probably the least population density of any country in the world (not positive) and is constantly overshadowed by the US. Canada constantly tries to copy the US but it just can't compete and therefore a lot of things come across as tier 2 (Canadian Idol, CFL football, etc). I believe these things all contribute to Canadians having that inferiority complex you see so often.
Canadians are globally respected because they're meek and mind they're own business though (unlike the US).
