Okay.
Screw it I'll do Australia anyway.

Sydney - Most famous of the Australian cities, and is one of the economic strongholds of Australia.
Melbourne - Almost as big as Sydney, another economic stronghold and the cultural capital of Aus.
Perth - The only city on the West Coast so it had to be included, it is important geographically.

France
Italy
Russia

Japan
China
India
South Korea

Mexico
Brazil
Venezuela

Answer any number of these countries, even if you only list one that's fine. I'm curious on everyone's opinion here.
I am only going to answer for the countries that I actually have any interest in which includes 5 of the ones listed.

UK: London, Edinburgh, Liverpool
France: Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon
Italy: Milan, Venice, Rome
South Korea: I don't think this is really possible as Seoul is really the heart of the nation and all other cities pale in comparison.
Brazil: Rio, Sao Paulo, Salvador(?)

Can't comment on most other countries, but the three most important cities in Germany are definitely Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. While Frankfurt is an important banking/administrative city, Hamburg is influencing Germany to a much greater extent.

The three most important cities of Austria are Vienna, Graz and Linz. The latter two get outshined by Innsbruck and Salzburg, but are only important from a tourists point of view.

Nah Brisbane is definitely ahead of Perth. WA as a whole is an important state though.

Lol, that was a really good one.

The 3rd city in Brazil really depends in what issue you are taking into account:

Brasilia has the 3rd GDP and is the capital of the country.

Belo Horizonte is the 3rd metropolitan area.

Salvador is the 3rd city in population, excluding the metro area, and one of the most important historically and culturally.

(Recife doesnt belong to this list)

(Salvador will probably be exceeded by Brasilia in population in the next years).
