I've actually been reading that more and more great whites have been spotted up in Southern BC over the years. Not that more equates anything near to the OP being likely to encounter one.
Yikes..I just looked that up. It seems warmer ocean temps are bringing them northward.
What about the Atlantic coast in France / Spain / Portugal ?
Lots of surf there and no sharks to be seen.
I have no idea. The only body of water I personnaly know in France is the North Sea where my father is living and I don't really recommand it... I've been to La Rochelle/Royan a while ago, so maybe there.. ?

Normandy is quite a bit colder than the rest.
The southwestern coast is famous for surfing, up to Royan infact, and I've seen lots of surfers in Bretagne in trespass bay as well.

A bit colder, yes. But well, some people may like colder water, I don't know.
Never been in Bretagne, that's too far away from where I live.
And I've just been to Royan once, there were lots of people but no surfers. Wasn't there the good day maybe ? I'd like to see a person surfing.
I read that the US has by far the largest number of shark attacks Shark Attack Data
I just wonder how accurate that data is...
