If zero is don't even put salt and pepper in it and 10 is the hottest cuisine routinely consumed by any culture (I don't mean eating an isolated ghost pepper or some kookie contest - I mean actual routinely served food), my tolerance is about an 8. And by tolerance, I mean actually enjoy the food I'm eating. Not "able to put up with spice." Bc why the hell would I eat something I didn't enjoy?
Example. At the thai place I frequent, you can pick mild, medium, medium spicy, and spicy. I pick spicy. Although I think they are being goofy, bc my three year old eats it with me. When I buy salsa, I always but the HOT version. The other version don't even taste spiced to me.
My parents are of northern Indian descent but we have lived and traveled around the world and eat many different cuisines my whole life. Meaning Indian food was a treat, not an everyday thing.
I've had some insane wasabi; it's basically a 0 or 1 on my tongue (compared to peppers), it's just what it does to my nasal passages, which doesn't happen with peppers. I did build up somewhat a tolerance for it; the thing is that if I eat wasabi or horseradish that's mega-hot, even if my nasal passages can deal with it, it hurts the hell out of my eyes!
I like wasabi but I am scared of it.
If I eat too much it sends an electric shock up my nose!
